GEIDA: IsDB Geoinformatics Data Platform

Earth observation for every stage of an IsDB project

Three components, one objective

Evidence-based project design and monitoring across the Bank, delivered through technology, action in real projects, and certified people.

Component A

Technology

Platform development and operational integration

A scalable, secure platform that turns the EO Toolkit's knowledge base into an engine for the Bank's daily work.

  • Geo-Portal
  • AI-powered analytics
  • Sector dashboards
  • Automated EO indicators
Component B

Action

Sector project integration and deep-dives

EO tools embedded in real pipeline projects, with results checked against field measurements.

  • 10 to 15 projects onboarded
  • Uganda pilot
  • Mali and Azerbaijan deep-dives
  • Field validation
Component C

People

Capacity building and certification

Certified staff and Regional Hubs who use GEIDA in their own projects, supported by a Knowledge Hub.

  • Foundation level, about 100 staff
  • Advanced level, about 50 staff
  • Regional Hubs
  • GEIDA Knowledge Hub

Built around the IsDB project cycle

Each IsDB instrument asks different questions. Pick a stage to see what GEIDA produces for an irrigation modernization project of about 4,500 ha.

GEIDA produces

  • Candidate-site screening
  • Land cover, slope and topography
  • Flood and drought exposure
  • Distance to roads, settlements and water

Why it matters

Fewer unsuitable sites, a stronger concept note and better-prepared field missions.

Global raster and vector data, fast at any zoom

Large open archives are read in place from public cloud buckets. Curated layers for member countries live in the GEIDA data lake. Both stream as cloud-optimized tiles, so maps stay smooth at country and field scale.
